Rosazzo DOCG

The winemaking tradition of the area where it produces its wine DOCG "Rosazzo" is of great importance and historical significance, synergy with the Abbey of Rosazzo, religious, cultural, political and social that arises here, has also made possible the documentation of the wine production in the last thousand years.

The driving function of the Abbey positively influenced since ancient times the development of these areas and is documented as "the enlargement of the hilly agricultural areas headed for the crops that most could benefit from particular climatic and soil conditions of these lands: ivigneti and the cultured orchards promiscuous is inserted strongly into the wooded landscape of these hills "(Gaspari 1976).
A document dated 20 January 1341 states that "The Patriarch Bertrand threatening to some people excommunication, which, after having occupied a wood of the Abbey of Rosazzo, did not want to plant vines"; It is one of the documents that attest to the vocation for the cultivation of "Rosazzo lives". Augustinians first, then the Benedictines and then the Dominicans last, made the wines of these lands a constant source of economic livelihood, making them so famous as to be served to the imperial table.

The Republic of Venice, settled at Rosazzo in the summer of 1420, contributed not a little to make known the Friulian wines, both for the many public relations, commercial and diplomatic that it entertained, both for the general consumption in the city, where receptions and parties were daily events.

In the last thousand years, the Rosazzo area and its wine production accounted thus a point of reference for the whole viticulture Friuli. The cultivation has also been able to live an extraordinary continuity thanks to the presence of the Abbey of Rosazzo: as well as other important centers of worship and at various times the Abbey was able to ensure the presence of lives even in the darkest moments of history, both for direct involvement in the production of religious, not involved in wars, for example, thanks to the wine in the centrality of the Eucharist rite, for this need.
